The Salão Design Award has a new sponsor: Brasmacol, which has joined longtime supporters Berneck and Interprint to sponsor the Brazilian leading furniture design award. Brasmacol, headquartered in the city of Chopinzinho, Paraná, is a leader in the Brazilian market manufacturing components for MDF furniture.
For the company, design is the main tool for adding value and devising technical and creative solutions for the furniture industry. By sponsoring the award, Brasmacol aims to support, encourage and promote design so that these innovations can be developed in an integrated manner together with manufacturing companies since the beginning of the process, generating more assertive products and responses. We are sure that design and designers are the means to combine creativity and technological innovation within the companies, developing and adding greater value to Brazilian furniture, says Brasmacol’s commercial director, Ronaldo Zanesco.
The Salão Design Award has been promoted by the Furniture Industry Association of Bento Gonçalves (Sindmóveis) since 1988. In its 23rd edition, the cash prize totals R$ 10,000 for professionals and R$ 6,000 for students, in five categories: Spaces in transformation challenge; 2020 Brazilian identity challenge; Panel use challenge; Embedded technology challenge and Positivist experience challenge.
The traditional awards that are still given include the Master Teacher trophy for the students best products and also the Alternative Woods Award, the latter in partnership with the Brazilian Forest Service, which recognizes the use of woods that are not widely used.
At this moment, 104 finalists are waiting for the final judging phase, which will be in January 2020, when the aesthetic-creative jurors are meeting in Serra Gaucha to evaluate the life-size products. This group consists of critic, design historian and author Adelia Borges; architect, designer and cabinetmaker Fernando Mendes; multi-award winner, designer with more than 50 years of experience Freddy Van Camp; artist and designer Heloísa Crocco; and the Content Director of Casa Vogue Taissa Buescu.
The exhibition of the products and the award ceremony will take place during Movelsul Brasil 2020, March 16-19, in Bento Gonçalves (RS).
